Farklı Sosyodemografik Özelliklere Sahip Olan Ailelerin Dikkat Eksikliği ve Hiperaktivite Bozukluğu (Dehb) Olan Çocuklara İlişkin Bilgi Düzeylerinin Belirlenmesi

This research was made with the purpose of determining the level of knowledge parents from different socio-economic levels regarding the Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) bearing children.The samples of the research was the parents of 236 students, studying in three primary schools conducting the first level of primary education, (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th years) resident in one of the metropolitan District of Ankara, Çankaya from three different socioeconomic level identified as low-medium-high. A survey which was prepared by researcher was planned in two sections in which questions of demography first and questions regarding the level of basic knowledge of ADHD, status of information, general considerations of definition and cure of the disorder as second. During the evaluation of the data considering numbers, percentages and schools Ci-Square Test was used in order to detect the difference of definitions made by parents. According to the findings of the research 69.4 % of the parents have priory information about ADHD. Considering having the priory information regarding the ADHD a statistical significant difference was detected (p<0.01) and this difference was originated from Boztepe Primary School which has a lower ratio. The most common source for this information was found and TV, web and books. In total around 33.5% of the parents, there is a ADHD diagnosed child and the degree of this person is occasionally detected as “child of neighbor/friend”. Considering level of information about ADHD it was detected that most of the parents has enough information about the characteristic properties of ADHD as it was expected however regarding the definition, diagnosis and curing methods of ADHD parents have inadequate or wrong information. In terms of stated definitions it was detected that there is no significant difference between schools. Considering the findings of the research, regardless of socioeconomic level it is suggested that school based training programs should be planned and the families should be accurately informed and directed to correct sources. Furthermore public based training programs should be planned in order to break the resistance to other psychological disorders and prevention of stigma
