Stanislaw August Poniatowski’nin Siyasal Sistem Reformu Projesi

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the reformatory program of the last King of Poland, Stanislaw August Poniatowski. The study focuses on implementing the reforms geared for transforming the existed regime. Therefore, firstly the problems caused by the regime so-called noble democracy or magnate oligarchy are discussed. Attempting to identify the nature of the regime, we encountered the problem of inconsistency between the extensive usage of the term of anarchical structure and characterizing the concept of the anarchy in the political sense. Therefore, an alternative concept, ―negative sovereignty‖ has been proposed in order to eliminate the problem. The reformatory program has been proposed by considering the personal beliefs and philosophy of Poniatowski as well as the inner and outer variables that Poland was exposed in that era.
