Özet
Parentification is described as a kind of role reversal that arises within the family when children have to take their parents’ roles or responsibilities. Empirical studies indicate that negative conditions such as financial difficulties, conflict between parents, divorce, lost, disease and so forth increase the risk for parentification. Recent studies show that children’s taking some adult responsibilities and perceiving this process “fair” can contribute to their psychological well being. However, it has been accepted that having some adult responsibilities which are not appropriate for children’s development level or their becoming a parent for thier own parents can cause various psychological problems. In the foreign literature, there are numerous studies indicating mood disorders like depression or anxiety can be regressed by parentification. In the current study, the aim is to assess parentification and its possible negative consequences in Turkish sample.
