Özet
The purpose of the study was to examine whether there were differences between individuals with autism and typically developing individuals on the performance of facial expression perception and and facial expression labeling. The sample in the study included 20 participants with autism and a control group of 20 participants with normal development, matched for chronological age, gender, socio-economic development, the level of verbal abilities and general intelligence. In the study, Demographic Information Form , The Vocabulary Subtest of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale , Face Recognition Task and Facial Expressions Recognition Task were administered to the participants respectively. Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Mann-Whitney U Test were applied to the gathered data in the study. Results of the analysis revealed that subjects with autism made more errors than the comparison group in both the facial expression perception and the facial expression labeling processes.
