In Lacanian thought “the symbolic” expresses structural framework that determines power’s dominance over daily life. Power, through the symbolic, is the determiner of structural relations that constitute individuals as subjects. The Symbolic function provides the foundation for subject which is necessary to recognise and be recognised by others. This foundation provides the possibility of construction of subject as a child in family, as an individual in society and as a citizen in its relationship with power. Subject connects to these positions through language which is the field of the Other. The return of the repressed one, which is Lacanian surplus jouissance, as a result of subjection to symbolic law through language, plays the basic role for formative construction of power. Success of the formative construction in ideological processes and in subjections to power lies behind mobilization of this surplus jouissance. Surplus jouissance has always connected with the fantasy of regaining a lost. By providing the possibility of redefining the political, this fantasy, plays a crucial role in the formative construction of the subject. This work discusses individual’s relation with the symbolic as a subject in ideological processes and in subjections to power with the fantasy of regaining the lost.
