This thesis’ subject is about the role of the migration process in the formation of ethnic boundaries and identity among the Kyrgyz community. This community lives in the eastern Anatolia in Turkey, in Van region, Erjish, Ulupamir village. The thesis is based on field research and seeks to explain the subject by the data collected in the field.The mentioned Kyrgyz community came from the Afghanistan's Pamir valleys, Wakhan region. The revolution which took place in 1978 in Afghanistan and the formation of communist power after the events forced them to leave their homeland. After 4 years of refugee life in northern Pakistan, they were relocated in 1982 to Turkey with about 4,000 other refugees.The biggest tragedy for the Kyrgyz community of the Ulupamir village until now is the migration process which had a strong influence on the formation of their ethnic boundaries and identity.
