Türkiye'nin Yayın Sayısına Farklı Bir Bakış: Bir Quadrant Analizi Çalışması
Özet
Turkey showed one of the sharpest increases in the number of publications in citation
indexes. Academia’s insistence on the significance of publications in citation indexes played a
major role in this increase. Another reason for the increase in the number of publications can be
attributed to the promotions provided by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of
Turkey. Such an environment exposes high number of publications and it became necessary to investigate their effects. The data used in this study was obtained from Essential Science Indicators.
Essential Science Indicators provide data about the publications and citations of countries in 22
various fields. The study evaluates the publication and citation performance of Turkey via quadrant analysis and includes various comparisons among countries. These comparisons showed that
Turkey is among the countries which have higher number of publications and higher average
number of citations, in terms of computer science, engineering and agriculture fields. Turkey’s
number of publications as well as the average number of citations in the field of space science
were found to be low. For the other 18 fields Turkey is in the group of countries which has higher
number of publications but lower average number of citations.
