Alexander Konstantinovich Glazunov, who was born in St. Petersburg on 10 August 1865, is one of the last representatives of Russian romantic music. He followed in the footsteps of his tutor Rimski-Korsakov and by staying devoted to the traditions of Russian music, created works that left a mark on the period he lived in and on today. At the same time, he worked as a teacher and administrator at the St. Petersburg Conservatory for nearly thirty years and contributed to the raising of many artists among which the famous composer Dimitri Shostakovich also exists. Among the most well-known works of Glazunov are opus 57 “Raymonda” and opus 67 “The Seasons” ballets, opus 109 saxophone concerto and opus 82 Violin Concerto in A Minor. The violin concerto was written in 1904 and dedicated to the famous violinist and pedagogue Leopold Auer. Its first playing was held in 1905 again by Leopold Auer, under the conduction of the composer in St. Petersburg.
