This thesis examines the evolution of human needs affecting the interior design in metropolitan areas in sociological context, examines the changes in the structure of thought from a philosophical perspective, and examines the improvement of building techniques from the technological point of view. The study also presents the changes in people's lifestyles, expectations and needs, along with the interiors they live in, which become more and more individualized with technologically developed, in the frame of post-truth and individualism. It discusses the respond of people and their living spaces to the promises of accelerated and therefore missed lives, and what actually is needed to go along with these promises in the frame of historical processes and future concerns. It is intended that this thesis, which states a situation analysis, be not only for designers but also for scientists who are doing research on metropolitan life.
In its content, there is the change of people in historical processes and the reasons that form a bedding for metropolitan life, how these reasons affect the modern-day philosophical thought structures and the effects of technological developments on interior designs which aim to answer new needs. The factors that affect thought structures, thematic projects and writings etc. of contemporary philosophers and with architects who left their mark on today’s architecture are discussed comparatively in logical framework. In addition to these discussions, the thematic science fiction philosophies of their times, were examined with the perspective of virtual reality in order to investigate how technology entered the interior spaces.
As a result, this thesis will show the importance of “interior spaces” that are trying to slow down the accelerating metropolitan life by their own, and trying to hold it in balance and order, and will offer propositions on new needs, which will emerge in interiors in the future.
