Galerilerden Müzelere Mekanlar ve Alanlar: İstanbul Dolapdere Semtinde Sanatsal Soylulaştırma

Abstract

This thesis focuses on the conceptual discussions about gentrification in public spheres and urban transformations root back in the 1980s. In Dolapdere, increasing gentrification can be seen in galleries, museums, and art events. This thesis took the Dolapdere providence as the focus area. In Turkey, the transformation of capital policies especially after 2001 caused new museums and art places in Dolapdere. Due to this residents experienced different aspects of the change in their district. This thesis also aims at these effects on residents of Dolapdere. The core idea behind this thesis is how can gentrification affects Dolapdere between art spaces and residents in Dolapdere. While I study It, I used theories to explain fieldwork. This study argues the positive and negative sides of art spaces while focusing the experiences of residents to define "gentrification" in Dolapdere.
