Abstract

Climate is the change in temperature, air pressure, humidity, precipitation, wind speed, sunlight, storm over a long period of time and in a particular area. The climate index defines changes in climate and climate system. In this thesis, parametric indices affecting the climate system in different regions of the world are examined. The seasonal cycles of the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Antarctic Ocean, the Arctic Ocean and land in various regions have been examined. In addition to this, the sunspot number and solar irradiance indexes were also examined to examine the effect of radiation from the Sun on climate events in the earth. In this thesis, power spectrum analysis and autocorrelation method were used to find the cycles of data sets. The cross correlation method is used to examine the relationship of data to each other. 44 data sets were analyzed for seasonal cycle and 1936 cross correlation are made for relation between two data. The results of the analysis show that the periods of data are related to other events on the globe. As a result of the cross correlation analysis, it can be said that the climate phenomenon occurring in one region affected the other region after a certain period of time. In this thesis study, correlations of solar indices with many data sets are related to their own period. The effect of the sun on the climate can also be expressed in the results of the thesis study.
