In the prevailing of today’s ecological destruction of nature; preservation of climate, ecosystem and biodiversity are possible with an approach based on real needs and measured consumption. Based on the German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer's discourse that “art is the most universal and sensuous truth”, (Erzen, 2002) we can say that in today's art, the artist has the ability to create social awareness through his/her works. In this context, it is aimed to interpret the nature, which is facing the danger of extinction step by step, within the artistic framework by transforming into ceramic applications with an eco-socialist approach as a conceptual context.
To reach the society with the power of the universal language of art and to create awareness, the artist’s (who puts his/her attitude towards life with his Works), power of communicating social messages to the mass crowds cannot be denied. As many scientists have pointed out, increase in population, rapid depletion of resources in the areas of industrialization and urbanization, The Mother Earth, which is the focal point of art and science, is vulnerable under the exploitation of mankind.
In the context of linking the eco-socialist approach with art, written and visual literature was searched on the subjects of nature, art, ecology, contemporary art and ecology, ecological socialism and social awareness and relationship among them was examined. After research on the meaning of ecological socialism, the relationship between ecology and art is examined. In this context, the contribution of contemporary art is emphasized and the expression of the artists working in this field is supported. The effects of art on society and the power of creating awareness for a situation that is intended to be explained are emphasized.
With an eco-socialist starting point, Mother Earth, which we take into consideration from the concerns of her current status, has been chosen as our subject of creative action. Ceramic studies, which arise in concern for the destroyed nature, are handled the concept of “seed” symbolizing the rebirth. The concept of seed came into being as an expression of the eco-socialist approach, an understanding developed against the nature and its destruction, in fulfilling a symbolic pendulum function between the past and the future.
In spite of all the negativity, if the person, who holds perpetual hope, believes that he is obliged to protect the nature, the change and transformation will then begin. With this idea, in order to draw attention to a social event through art, the eco-socialist approach was developed and the designed ceramic applications were presented to the audience as objects of art.
