SANCAR TURAN, I. Evaluation of the Effects of Unilateral Distalization on Dentofacial Structures With Tooth-supported or Bone-supported Carriere Distalizer. Hacettepe University, Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Orthodontics, Specialty Thesis, Ankara, 2018. Introduction: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of mini-screw or lingual arch anchored Carriere Distalizer appliance on dentofacial structures in individuals who need unilateral distalization. Methods: Twenty patients were included in the study. Inclusion criteria were as follows; unilateral Class II or tete-a-tete molar-canine relationship, erupted the second molar teeth, normal or horizontal growth direction, no tendency to openbite. Patients included in the study were divided into two groups according to the bone width between the roots and the adequacy of the adherent gingival width. Carriere Distalizer was applied with lingual arch in group 1 (n = 10) and mini screw in group 2. (n = 10). Individuals were evaluated with dental cast and cephalometric recordings at the beginning of treatment (T1) and at the end of treatment (T2). Results: The treatment time was 3 ± 0.7 months in the lingual arch group and 4 ± 1.2 months in the mini screw group. The mean amount of distalization measured from cephalograms was 3.4 ± 1.8 mm in the lingual arch group and 3.1 ± 0.6 mm in the mini screw group. The amount of distal tipping in the first molar tooth was measured as 0.8 ° in the lingual arch group, and 2° in the mini screw group relative to the palatal plane. There was a significant increase (3.1 °) in the IMPA in the lingual arch group. The maxillary canines showed spontaneous distalization. No statistically significant changes were observed in the skeletal and soft tissues. Conclusions: As a result of our study, in the unilateral use of Carriere Distalizer appliance; There was no significant effect on the skeletal and soft tissues; in the lingual arch group, the lower anterior teeth were protruded significantly. In the mini-screw group, the upper anterior teeth were retracted significantly and effective distalization was observed in both groups.
