Sığınma Evinde Kalan Kadınların Toplumsal Cinsiyet Rolleri Tutumları ve Yardım Arama Davranışlarının İncelenmesi
Özet
Although the struggle against violence against women continues for a while in both the world and our country, violence against women and women's murders are increasing. One of the reasons for this is that the effective method of combating violence is not found and the applied methods become dysfunctional. This research, which sets out for the discovery of a functional method of struggle with violence against women, emphasized the nature and components of violence and approached these components from the focus of women. The purpose of this study is to understand the gender role attitudes and help-seeking behaviors of women’s who battered and has shelter experience with the view of women through the feminist social work approach. In this research designed for this aim in qualitative research design and thirteen women have been in-depth interviewed thoroughly using the purposive sampling method.
Interviews with women were analyzed by detailed casting. As a result of the analysis of the research, the gender roles of women and their supportive and preventive components of help seeking behaviors have been reached and a scheme has been made. Referring to this schema, it is especially important to draw attention to the multiplicity of components that hinder help-seeking behavior and to put into practice the works that will neutralize these components.
As a result of research, it has been observed that women’s help-seeking behaviors emerged with ‘death threat’ perception that there is no 'place to go' because their support is inadequate whose gender role attitudes overlap with 'expected femininity'. In other words, the attitudes of gender roles, which are fit and passive for the traditional point of view, have been subjected to violence for a long time due to insufficient support, but when they or their children are threatened with death, they have actively searched for help seeking behavior.
It was discovered that women who participated in the study were exposed to at least one type of violence by their parents and this situation caused the violence to be normalized and that these women who were exposed to violence in their marriages remained within the cycle of violence. Women who are exposed to violence by their parents and learn violence as ‘right / punishment’, are blamed when they are exposed to violence with the influence of cultural teachings that normalize violence and do not seek help until the extent of violence increases.
One of the important results of the study is the observation that there is no direct relationship between education levels of women and the regions where they are raised and their gender roles attitudes and exposure to violence. It is understood that women's awareness of gender inequality, the consequences of this inequality and the types of violence are later formed.
One of the sub-aims of the study was to look at women's shelter and the adequacy of women's shelter as a last resort. As a result of the research, it was understood that the lack of feminist approach and the different applications from women's perspective in the provision of shelters services had a negative impact on women's empowerment and prevented them from establishing an independent new life. In this context, it was concluded that a feminist approach is a necessity in shelters. In addition strongly the public institutions involved in the fight against women and organizations in the personnel of 'mediation' method and the 'family unity' of having the understanding to the conclusion that barriers to women's help-seeking behavior has been reached.
In this study, feminist method and feminist social work practices are the most effective method in combating violence against women and examples are given. Focusing on attitudes and behavior change in the fight against violence against women will be a long-term and functional solution, and this is not a traditional method but a feminist approach to social work. In this context, the life experiences, problems and needs of women have been evaluated by using the feminist social work approach and the suggestions are given in multiple levels.
It has been noticed that there are women who have more than one sheltering experience in the research process and that these women are affected negatively by the transition to independent living due to different practices and approaches. Therefore, it is thought that researches about the satisfaction and benefit levels of women with different shelters will emphasize the necessity of feminist social work approach and make service delivery functional and high quality.
