ABSTRACT
Szeremy, Y., Analyzing Turkish and Foreign Children’s Story Books Dealing with Health, Hacettepe University, Institute of Health Sciences, Special Education, Master Thesis, Ankara, 2018. In this study, Turkish, English and French children's story books were examined within the context of child health and children's story books were analyzed to find out which health topics were presented in these story books. In accordance with this purpose, data were collected through “The Form of Analysing the Childrens’s Story Books (Theme: Health) developped by the researcher. This study was based on a sample of 96 Turkish, 32 English and 32 French children’s story books which were suitable for kids ages 4-8 and published between 2007-2017. In this study, descriptive survey model was used and document analysis was conducted to collect research data. Collected data were analyzed using the SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Studies) program. From the results of the evaluation, it was concluded that in the children’s story books, health topics such as oral and dental health, hand and body cleanse, physical activity and nutrition were mostly included. Apart from these health topics, 28 different health topic themes were figured out in analyzed children’s story books. There were a few children’s books with theme “cancer, diabetes, epilepsy" but fewer in number, thus it can be said, there is a need for more books which have these kinds of health topics.
