R. K. Narayan (1906-2001) depicts the fictional town of Malgudi, in which he sets mostof his works, as a typical South Indian town. Since Malgudi is formed as the microcosmof India, it was through Malgudi and Malgudians that Narayan made his comments onthe British colonisation of India and its effects on the Indian society.
