Postural control is the ability to orient and stabilize the position of the body in space. With aging, changes in the structures that provide postural control and changes in balance occur. The purpose of this planned study is to evaluate the effect of dual task paradigm on postural control in different age groups. A total of 80 people, 20 people in each group, from 4 age groups (18-30 years / 30-40 years / 40-50 years / 50-65 years) with normal hearing according to standard measurements (0.125-8 kHz) were included in the study. Hearing test, MiniMental, Tinetti, and mCTSIB tests were applied to each of the participants. Then, on static posturography, the centers of gravity were recorded while the individuals were performing dichotic listening, which is the secondary task, and when they were not, in normal and tandem posture conditions. When center of gravity changes are examined within age groups, statistically significant center of gravity changes were not obtained in the 18-30 age group with the dual task paradigm, while in the 30-40 age group, they were on the y-axis (0.96 deg) in normal posture, and in the 40-50 age group, on the x-axis in normal posture. (0.47 deg) and (0.38 deg-0.34 deg) in both x and y axis in the 50-65 age group (p<0.05). When the changes in the x and y axes in normal and tandem stance were compared, statistically significant differences were obtained only in the y axis (0.56 deg) in the 40-50 age group and in the x axis (0.23 deg) in the 50-65 age group. In comparisons between groups, the largest differences were obtained between the 18-30 age group and the 40-50 and 50-65 age groups. As a result, it appears that the effect of dichotic listening on postural control increases with increasing age. However, the fact that no statistically significant difference was obtained in any group in the tandem stance conditions may be related to the fact that more attention resources are directed to postural control due to the difficulty of the stance task. It is thought that the chosen secondary task, dichotic listening, may have an effect on postural control.
