The ostracod fauna of the shallow marine Orhaniye Formation, that was deposited during the Eocene period in the Tertiary Kazan Basin of Ankara, is determined from the 119 samples gathered from 8 measured stratigraphic sections. During the examinations, 21 different ostracod genera belonging to 14 different family and 3 genera left open to nomenclature has been determined. Only 17 of the 44 determined taxa of ostracoda were previously known. The remaining 8 of the 27 taxa are proposed as new (Bairdia kazanensis n. sp., Echinocythereis orhaniyensis n. sp., Pokornyella anatolica n. sp., Quadracythere kazanensis n. sp., Reticuloquadracythere anatolica n. sp., Hornibrookella turcica n. sp., Uroleberis ventripunctata n. sp. and Uroleberis ventricostata n. sp.). 19 taxa are left open to nomenclature.
According to the environmental properties of the determined ostracod species, the environmental conditions prevailing during the deposition of Orhaniye Formation is interpreted as frequently changing from epineritic to infraneritic. According to the results of the microfacies analysis, determined ramp microfacies types characterises lagoon to outher ramp environmental conditions.
According to the determined ostracod and foraminifer species, the age of the Orhaniye Formation is determined as latest Ypresian-Bartonian.
