Seeing colors is and ability that we use in everyday life and that we don’t deliberate
unless we live a problem about it. But there is lots of people living color seeing problems
in their daily lives. Those people don’t recognize this problem unless they meet a
situation about the effect of this problem in their lives. Adult people can cope with this
color seeing problem generally. But if children are in question, this situation may turn into
a problem which is difficult to overcome for them. Besides, although the determination
of the test is not a problem for the adults, testing environment and testing tools can cause
to negative psychological effects during and after the determination of the diagnosis for
children.
There are nonclinical and theoretically correct tests about seeing colors. These tests are
prepared just for the determination of the defect but not for how the defect would be
determined. Problems that can be faced during and after the determination of the defect
may cause to self-respect and psychological problems in children. In this respect, an
application design for the color vision deficiency which would not cause negative
problems on children during the testing is prepared in this study.
In the first chapter of the study historical process of the studies on color vision deficiency
and studies on this area are examined. Process is limited as the discovery of the defect,
studies that were done for the determination of the defect and treatment processes. In
the second chapter, color seeing and childhood period is examined throughout
examples. Periods in which colors can be defined correctly by children and the
importance of colors for the development of children is analyzed. In the third chapter of
the study, tests which were developed for the determination of color blindness and
suitability of these tests for children is examined with examples. On the fourth and last
chapter the production process of a children’s tale book application which is prepared for
the determination of the color vision deficiency is explained in detail.
Application is prepared as an interactive mobile application which can work on Apple’s I
pad tablet computer. Application designed for this study is an original children’s story
and its aim is making the color vision deficiency test for the determination of children with color seeing problems. In the application, color vision deficiency test can be applied as
the children who are using the application would not recognize that they are making a
color blindness test. Processes are explained in detail and results of the application
design are narrated.
