The research was carried out in a mixed design in order to examine the process of (clinical) pediatric surgical physician visits performed in the Pediatric Burn Intensive Care Unit and to evaluate the bedside round management skills of pediatric surgical assistants. The sample of the study consisted of 8 pediatric surgery residents and 6 pediatric surgery lecturers working in the pediatric surgery department of Ankara Child Health and Diseases Hematology, Oncology Training Research Hospital. Bedside round observations were made to evaluate the bedside round management skills of the assistants, and semi-structured interviews were held with the lecturers to define the round process. Frequency, percentage, mean and Mann Whitney U test were used to evaluate observational data. Thematic analysis was used in the analysis of the interview data. According to the findings obtained from the observations in the study, the rate of training visit (16.3%), clinical round (11.3 min) and training round (24.5 min) in the child burn intensive care unit, and averages of skills of non-technical visit management of the assistants in both observations were lower than the technical visit skill averages. As a result of both observations, there was no difference in the visit management skills of assistants by gender. At the end of the first observation, although there was no difference according to the duration of experience of the assistants during the period of becoming a physician and pediatric surgeon, as a result of the second observation, there was a difference in the mean score of non-technical round management skills of the assistants (p = 0.044). According to the trainer's views, the types of visits, roles and responsibilities of the participants, factors affecting the quality of the visit, visit management skills, attributes that the assistant should have, and the ward round process suggestions were the prominent themes. In the qualitative part of the study, information that could be useful in understanding and explaining the visit process was obtained in the trainer's views. It is suggested that the assistants' non-technical visit management skills should be developed in bedside clinical visits.
