In this art work report titled as “Playfulness and Fiction in Art”, the playful orientation which is accommodated in creative performance is discussed on the basis of certain fundamental concepts. In this respect, in the first part, what type of a behavioral structure the playful orientation phenomenologically has is briefly addressed, and a historical evaluation is presented. Moreover, what sort of an existential form the play corresponds to in natüre and civic area and what the play type forming the context of this study are described in this part.
In the second part, play theory which was developed in the mid-20th century is evaluated in the framework of narrative forms and discussions on language and semiotics, and how the play theory has echoes in the area of art is revealed through art movements coming into existence in this period. In this part, playful language in art is unveiled through samples of studies performed with photomontage, collage and assemblage techniques.
In the third part, the effect of cognitive processes of the artist playing the play on fantasy and fictional power and these mental processes are explained via samples of artist’s productions. Through certain art practices which are addressed in this part, coverage of the study is deepened, and expression forms appertaining to poetical fiction are discussed on the basis of the concept of play. Furthermore, the spatial context based on playful fiction in art is addressed historically with the emergence of the definition of fictional area. This process is explained around the concept of ‘stage’ in connection with relational aesthetic understanding. Besides, certain concepts peculiar to playfulness such as theatricality, drama, stage play, imaginary reality, fiction, manipulation, metaphor and free montage are discussed through samples from the area of art.
