Kronik Konstipasyonu Olan Bireylerde Konnektif Doku Masajının Etkisi
Abstract
In this study, the effect of connective tissue manipulation (CTM) on severity of constipation and health- related quality of life (HRQOL) were investigated in patients with chronic constipation. This study was carried out on 52 patients. Patients were randomly divided into two groups; only suggestions for lifestyle changes and CTM in addition to suggestions for lifestyle changes. CTM was applied 15-20 minutes in a season, five days in a week, during four weeks. Suggestions for life style changes such as nutrition and physical activity were given to the patients in two groups. The patients were evaluated before and after the treatment using Constipation Severity Instrument (CSI) for constipation severity, Constipation Quality Life Instrument (KQAI) for patients' HRQOL, Bristol Stool Chart (BSC) for stool-type, Visual Analog Scale (VAS) for the impact of constipation complaint on current situation, 7 days-bowel dairy for clinical symptoms such as defecation frequency, defecation time, stool type, a feeling of incomplete evacuation. At the end of the treatment, patients' subjective perception improvement was recorded using five-point Likert-Type Scale. After the treatment, there were statistically significant difference in patients' CSI, CQOL and VAS scores between groups (p<0.05). Statistically significant improvement was found in all clinical symptoms such as defecation frequency, defecation time, stool type, incomplete evacuation in CTM+suggestion group (p<0.05). At the end of the treatment, significant improvement was found in the patients' subjective perception (p<0.05). In the light of these results, connective tissue massage maytake place in the other treatment methods because of reducing the severity of constipation and clinical symptoms, increasing patients' HRQOL.
