Üniversite Öğrencilerin Mobil Teknoloji Kullanımı: Hacettepe Üniversitesi Bilgi ve Belge Yönetimi Bölümü örneği

Abstract

Developments in mobile applications and technology provide heavy usage of mobile phones. These developments have changed perspective of mobile phones and beyond the traditional functions of mobile phones, new technologies have transformed them as new tools that were donated with the capability of accessing almost every kind of information for daily activities. In the light of these developments, this study aims to analyze students from Hacettepe University Department of Information Management by using description method as a research method. According to aim of the study, research questions were determined as; What kind of characteristics do students have interms of mobile phone usage?, What kind of tendencies do students have for changing their mobile phones?, What are their levels for accessing internet via their mobile phones? and Which factors are important for their mobile phone selections?. In line with the determined aims and research questions of the study, data were obtained from 137 students via conducted web based survey and analyses were carried out via PASW software. Research results were revealed that; as average usage period mobile phones are used by students for seven and half years and factors such as performance, ease of use and design are important for student’s mobile phone selections. Finally it was obtained in the study thatstudents generally use internet via their mobile phones for checking out emails and following social networks
