In essence, this thesis examines the melodic structures in the archlute sonatas of Giovanni Zamboni Romano, an Italian composer who lived in the 18th century, in order to develop a historically informed method of dimunition practice for his compositions. In line with this goal, historical information about the inclusion of the archlute, a type of long necked lute, in European music is given in the "Historical Background" section. The origin of the lute, its place in European and Italian music, and the development of the long-necked lutes archlute, chitarrone and theorbo are explained respectively. Then, the Italian lute repertoire was examined in the context of the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. In the historical background section, the performance practices of the period are explained and the main problem which this study focuses on explained. In the method section, information is given about the method by which melodic structures will be examined. The data analysis section includes the process of examining the composer's archlute works. As a result of the analysis of the data, the ornaments and dimunitional melody structures used in the archlute sonatas of Giovanni Zamboni Romano were determined and explained under separate headings. In the dimunition method section, studies have been derived for the practical use of melodic structures, and suggestions for the use of the application in context are presented by considering the sonata number six. In the results and suggestions section, the study was evaluated in the context of the results it reached and some suggestions were included.
