The main objective of this study is to analyze the place of performative verbs. With this regard, particularly syntax and semantics have been taken into consideration. The study has been conducted according to the performative value of 175 verbs which have performative tendency. The categorical place to which these verbs belong has been first shown in alphabetical order, then they have been displayed according to their order of frequency (in 1 million words). Le Petit Robert, Dixel Mobile dictionary has been used for the obtained data. The category of each 175 verbs with performative tendency has been arrayed in rows within itself according to the frequency of the verbs. In addition, the synonyms and the antonyms of the performative verbs have been graded and sequenced. As a consequence of the obtained results, pairs which have the strongest and weakest grades have been established.
The results obtained by analyzing The French coursebooks Festival 1 and Festival 2, the frequency rates of the performative verbs which have synonyms, and antonyms has been analyzed using the above mentioned tables. Finally, the value of the obtained verbs has been determined. However, not many indirect performative have been found in our analysis. Some examples have the value of complete primary performative.
