Toptaş Kılıç S., Determination of Holistic Well-Being and the Factors that Affects Holistic Well-Being In Cancer Patients, Hacettepe University Graduate School of Health Sciences, Programme of Psychiatric Nursing, Doctorate Thesis, Ankara, 2019. This research was conducted in order to analyse the Holistic Well-Being of Cancer Patients in three parts containing methodological and descriptive analysis. The first part of the research is the validation of “Holistic Well-Being Scale” in Turkey. This was conducted with 230 patients who were either coming to the day care or staying in the oncology clinics. In the second part of the research, a new sample of 203 patients were examined according to their assesments of Holistic Well-Being Scale, Brief Symptom Scale and their descriptive characteristics. In the third part of the research, individual interviews were conducted with 18 patients in order to identify the experiences of the patients related to the evaluation of the Holistic Well-Being of them. Data was collected by using the forms of Descriptive Characteristics Form, Holistic Well-Being Scale and Semi-Structured Questionnaire Form. In the evaluation part of the analysis Frequencies, Mean/Median, Mann Whitney U Test, Kruskal Wallis H Test, Pearson Correlation Coefficient, Confirmatory Factor Analysis, Kendal-W analysis and in the reliability part Split-Half and Cronbach Alfa were calculated and used. In the qualitative part, content analysis was used. According to the findings, Holistic Well-Being Scale can be applicable to the Turkish culture with 6 dimension and 26 items, not same with the original form. It was identified that Turkish Form of Holistic Well-Being Scale as a reliable and validated scale. It is found in the descriptive analysis that the Holistic Well-Being Scale dimensions did not show any statistical difference according to age, having child, place in living, place coming from, people living together, type of cancer and taking any support. According to the individual interviews, six categories were obtained by means of how they evaluate the holistic well-being of them. The categories are: pyschical dimension, psychological dimension, social dimension, spiritual dimension, economic dimension and the expectations from the health staff. In accordance with the results, it is reccommended that Holistic Well-Being Scale to be used in Turkey. When taking into consideration of the situation of the patients with pyschical and psychological problems, it is reccommended to new psychoeducation programs to be enhanced.
