The main objective of this study was to investigate the psychosocial problems and needs of young adult MS patients and their families. Turkey MS (Multiple Sclerosis) Association studies conducted in Ankara branch working group of the research, Turkey MS Association has reached a total of 216 active MS in Ankara branch.
The data obtained from the research were evaluated in SPSS 22.0 program, percentage distributions were analyzed and explained.
Young adult MS patients have been facing many problems in their daily lives since the date they were diagnosed. Social support and economic difficulties are the most important ones. According to the results of the study, the anxiety status of young adult MS patients is quite high and emotionally dependent on other individuals. Although the majority of family members for MS patients have received more attention, communication problems and experiences of living apart from family members have been found. The most important results obtained from the study are the failure to meet the social activity needs of young adult MS patients, the lack of reporting and psychosocial support in the health system, and the future anxiety of MS patients.
Micro and macro studies should be conducted as a solution to the problems of MS and individuals with this disease. It is recommended to implement MS research and application centers with a focus on psychosocial support, to produce various social policies for the problems experienced in health institutions, and to carry out awareness and awareness studies on MS.
