The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of songs on the success of language
learning with communicative approach in teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language.
Document analysis method as a qualitative research approach was used in the study.
With this method, theses made in the last 20 years, articles published in national and
international journals, textbooks and workbooks used in teaching Turkish as a Foreign
Language, songs, song texts and exercises used in these books were examined and their
distribution between these activities and units were investigated.
In the study, considering the studies conducted in the field, it was concluded that the use
of songs in the classroom activities for students learning Turkish as a Foreign Language
improved basic language skills, especially listening, speaking, reading, writing and
vocabulary, and that song activities were not used in the desired amount in the
textbooks. As a result of the study, Turkish songs that teachers who teach Turkish as a
foreign language can be used in class are presented as activity suggestions.
