Abstract
The act of exhibiting, which initially arose with human impulses, has gradually become a systematic design field diversified with different methods and forms. Through the exhibition design, which can be defined as the art of storytelling or communicating environments within the space, people have sought different ways of telling stories and sharing information. Research on alternative learning theories and experiential learning processes reveal that knowledge gained through experience is learned much faster and permanent. The researchers stated that the experience created by exhibition design and learning by experience is one of the most effective forms of communication. Nowadays, with the power of developing technological and technical opportunities such as virtual and augmented reality presentations, video projection mapping technique and spatial augmented reality environments, the exhibition spaces are moving towards becoming places that teach by experiencing beyond storytelling. In the first chapter of the study, exhibition action and design are defined. Historical development and types of exhibition spaces are examined. In the second chapter, the theories of experiential learning and the role of exhibition spaces in this field are investigated. In the third chapter, the historical development of the projection device is discussed and video art is examined concordantly. Furthermore, the concepts of virtual reality, augmented reality and spatial augmented reality are defined and the video projection mapping technique is analyzed. Spatial augmented reality application examples from the historical process and today are examined. In the last chapter of the thesis, a mirror beam combiner is designed to create a spatial augmented reality environment in the exhibition areas with the application project which is called “Sacred Marriage”. The production process of the mirror beam combiner, the video mapping techniques, the application process of motion graphics and the video production stage are all explained.
