Perspective and depth perception are fundamental art subjects in today’s art schools. However, perspective education is limited to 1, 2, and 3 points in Turkey’s institutions and unfortunately, there is not enough literature in Turkish. The purpose of this study is to investigate the knowledge of perspective via contemporary and technological techniques, which are used to create an animation project. This dissertation consists of 4 sections. In the first section, the basic terms, such as stare & observe, light, eye, projection and the types of perspective, are defined. Following these, the process of seeing is examined in detail with visual clues and the illusion of depth composed of color and shadow. The systems of perspective projections are demonstrated. The second section describes the changes of the phenomenon of visual perception in human mind in terms of perspective tools in history. The mythological era with metaphysical approach, the central perspective era, the first drawing tools era, the camera obscura era, the chemical era with the invention of the photography, and the digital era with computer graphics are introduced chronologically. The third section is focused on 2.5D animation as a digital language. At first, the digital animation and its classifications are defined and then, the transformation of the classical animation is explained. Here, the examples of 2.5D animation, including the matte painting, animation and motion graphics, are provided. The last section is for the basic steps to create the 2.5D animation application by using the knowledge of perspective. Altai Cosmogony myth has been chosen for animation scenario and the term of cosmography is outlined. Then, the required information about perspective and the perception of depth are presented with the application steps.
