The Disconnected as a canonical text in Turkish literature can be considered to be an inspirational novel which made an impact on subsequent literature. In this study, roots of “social type” concept were examined historically: the question why the novel The Disconnected had become more influential in the 80s rather than the 70s was answered through historical and socioligical analysis by employing Pierre Bourdieu’s concepts; How the social climate had changed after the 80s was also investigated, and this discussion is related the subjects of literary field such as audience, author, critic, and publisher; Drawing on the novel The Disconnected and the secondary literature, a social type that is called “The Disconnected” and the common patterns of this social type being “irony” as discussed by Richard Rorty, “nostalgia” as conceptualized by Svetlana Boym and “resentment” examined by Gilles Deleuze were identified. Novels of post 2000s Turkish Literature which are considered to be popular narratives providing clues about the current social climate are examined.
