Abstract

The contemporary urban life in which we live is an era in which social, cultural, artistic, and technological transformations are experienced. With urbanization, unprecedented changes in the history of humankind have occurred in a revolutionary quality with the introduction of "Speed" into urban life, the urban people have been the most affected ones by these changes. The globalization of consumption, the formation of the consumer society, the penetration of technology into every area of the lives of individuals, the images imposed on individuals by popular culture have made the city life more complicated, and for the body which is trying to locate itself among the rapid changes of urban life became difficult to perceive the objective world. In the consumer society, the body has become a commodity which is produced for the purpose of change.The body which is commoditized and which lost its sensitivity in the area,experiences psychological breakdowns by also mental/spiritual collapses In the Master of Arts Thesis, encountered changes, which have been ongoing with the modern period, and have continued until today, and according to these transformations, the relationship between city and body, and the distortions of the body will be discussed in the terms of mental and spiritual distortions. In my personal point of view, including me, the city has a major effect on our bodies which is a main issue. As a part of this complicated system, I took this subject in my hands specificly working on the negative effects. While creating the urban and body, I personally visualised the broken city image and body. These images are lonely, naked and without protection. The figures are strangers to the environment and their own individualities and displaying this situation with their anatomic shapes and body language. The effects of city life, mentally contains some certain violence. The chaotic living environment of the city contains intensity, which can ruin the nature of the mind. The bodies are the initiators of reaction in the limitless and mild borders of the city.
