Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the meanings of culture, city, urbanization and urban culture. In line with the history and development of the city's formation, urbanization and its integration with culture, the concept of "Suburb" has been focused on. In addition to the definition of "Image of Suburb", which emerged in parallel with urbanization, it was tried to be explained as the development of slums and suburb areas. Although the image formed by the concept of Suburban is the basis of the study, the definition of the image, its place in the art and the suburbs formed within the urban culture have been the main points to focus on. The study of examples of how the city image took place in art was discussed in the universality and timeliness of the subject. The concept of suburban in the perception of a city; visual acquisition can create, "Artistic Applications" under the title of the tried to be shown. When the city was considered as an image, it was aimed to show the artistic interpretations of the urban image that the building unit, which is the most important of its elements, could form in formal, intellectual or visual terms through the ceramic art, which is the basic material of clay. During the studies, artistic compositions were introduced with the support of side materials (Wood, Metal) in structural forms made with ceramic material. In the final result of the proficiency study report entitled ‘’The Concept of Suburbs, Installation With Artistic Applications Within the Framework of Urban Culture’’, in general, explanations about the concepts of culture, city, urbanization, slums, suburbs and images were discussed. The artists engaged in artistic work on the city were evaluated and the results achieved with the artistic applications made within this framework were interpreted. In this context, the process of the artistic practices and the results obtained accordingly were interpreted.
