Abstract
In this study, effects of calisthenic exercise training were investigated on enflamatuar markers, quality of life and patient satisfaction by prospective research method after kidney transplantation. Our study was performed on 29 patients who were taken after kidney transplantation. Groups were divided into calisthenic exercise and control groups by using the Online Random Allocation Software Program. Patients' complete blood counts, serum creatininen, total protein, albumin, glucose, cholesterol, triglyceride, low and high density lipoprotein, C reactive protein and interleukin 6 levels were determined by appropriate biochemical methods, general quality of life was assesed with short form 36 (SF-36) and diseasespecific quality of life was assesed with Kidney Disease Life Questionnare (KDQOL-SF) and exercise capcity measured by 6 minutes walk test (6MWT). The evaluations were repeated at 8 weeks after treatment. Patient satisfaction was assessed by visual analogue scale after treatment. A calisthenic exercise program was given involving the major muscle groups in the exercise group. The patients in the control group were not given any exercise. The duration of treatment was 3 days per week, 8 weeks and totally 24 seance. Although serum biochemical levels, KDQOLSF and 6MWT evaluations were not statistically different between the groups (p>0.05) intra-group comparisons showed an increase in hemoglobin value and 18 meter improvement on 6MWT in the exercise group. A statistically significant difference was found between the groups in terms of the social function subparameter of life quality and satisfaction with increasing quality of life (p<0.05). It has been observed that calisthenic exercise has an effect on renal transplant patients
