Abstract

Repetition compulsion is a psychological concept first proposed by Sigmund Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis. According to Freud, repetition compulsion is the unconscious urge to repeat behaviors or experiences that are emotionally significant to a person, even if those behaviors or experiences are negative or painful. This repetition can take various forms, such as repeating a traumatic event or engaging in self-harming behavior. The Zeigarnik effect, on the other hand, is a psychological phenomenon described by Bluma Zeigarnik that explains why a person remembers unfinished events more than those whose situations are complete. In this thesis, in the context of repetition compulsion and zeigarnik effect, the painting series titled “Reminiscence”, which the artist created by revisiting his experiences that left a trace in his personal memory as a result of disappointment, was compared with the artists from art history and today's art that he finds close in form or content. intended to be examined.
