Abstract
The purpose of this research is to examine whether there is a relationship between 8th grade students physical activity levels, fitness, academic achievement and academic self concepts. In this research, correlational study was used. After equalization process 71 (48,3%) boys and 76 (51,7%) girls, total 147 8th grade students, were joined the research. The socioeconomic level, the attendance level of private teaching institution, the private tutoring and the educational levels of the parents were equalized. Demographical information were gathered with personal information form that was developed by researchers, physical activity level was determined by Physical Activity Question From that was developed by Kowalski and others (1997), translated to Turkish by Sert and Temel (2013). Fitnessgram Test battery was used to assess students fitness level. The Fitnessgram Test battery was developed by Charles L. Sterling (1977). The national standardized test (TEOG) was used to measure academic achievements. In order to determine Academic Self Concept the sub dimension of Self Concept Inventory was used. Self Concept Inventory was originally developed by Marsh (1990) and translated to Turkish by Yıldız and Fer (2008). A Pearson product- moment correlation coefficient was computed to assess the relationship among the physical activity level, fitness, TEOG score and academic self concept. In conclusion there was a positive correlation between the physical activity level and TEOG score r =0.283 p=0,001. Also there was a positive correlation between the physical activity level and academic self concept score r=0.254 p=0.002. In addition to this there was positive relationship among two of health related fitness parameters (push-up r=0.200 p=0.015 , trunk flexibility r=0.251 p=0.002) and TEOG score. There was no relationship between health related fitness parameters and academic self concept
