Periodic waveforms are necessary for many applications like telecommunication, electromagnetic and biomedical. Direct Digital Synthesis (DDS) is a method of generating signals with high frequency resolution and fast frequency switching speeds by digital control. A general DDS system comprises analog and digital part. Frequency determining algorithm and look up table that holds the sampled waveform data make digital part. In this part waveforms are generated as sample points. D A converter is used to convert digital data to analog data. D A converter block makes up digital part of DDS.In this thesis, we implemented a DDS based function generator by using FPGA, to be used in systems such as local oscillators or different kinds of waveforms are needed. Well known waveforms like sinus, rectangular, triangular, sawtooth and DC wave are generated with adjustable frequency and amplitude parameters.
