Özet
Today, with the increasing competitive environment, companies need to develop faster, less costly and more error-free products. For this reason, they need information systems and the management of the entire production process from end to end in a single environment. In the study, it is aimed to identify the needs for product lifecycle management applications in order to record all processes for products and services in a large-scale defense industry company that wants to switch to an integrated structure and to analyze the transition process to this approach. Within the framework of the stated purpose, the conceptual background of the study is built on corporate information management and product lifecycle management. Based on this setup, the company's corporate information management practices and product lifecycle management studies are described in two dimensions. In the first of these dimensions, the opinions of the decision makers who are responsible for structuring the product lifecycle management practices in the company were evaluated. In the second dimension, the evaluations of the employees who experienced the product life cycle applications as a pilot application were analyzed. Data were collected through semi-structured interview and survey techniques for the analysis of the said opinions and evaluations. Among the prominent findings, it has been specified that (1) there are problems in accessing corporate information (2) there are interruptions in information systems (3) there is a need for improvements in the planning of processes during the transition to the product life cycle. As a result, it has been understood that employees experience problems such as not being able to access up-to-date information, working with too many information systems and needing to transfer data between these systems. In product lifecycle management applications, it has been specified that the lack of training and the fact that the trainings given are not company-specific viii negatively affect the transition to the use of these applications. In addition, employees who have experienced product lifecycle management applications as a pilot application have evaluated the spread of these applications throughout the company as a necessary situation. As a result of the findings and evaluations, as the main hypothesis of the study, "There is a need for product life cycle management applications that record all processes for products and services in the integrated structure of a defense industry institution that manages business processes based on product and service development with a large scale and many information systems." hypothesis was confirmed. It is thought that this study has unique value in terms of depicting the transition process to product lifecycle management practices in corporate structures.
