In this thesis, concepts of spectacle and conspicuous consumption have been explored through other concepts such as ‘fashion’, ‘kitsch’, ‘fetishism’ by assuming there is a relationship between them and interpreted through some examples in art history. Throughout history, humankind has attributed a value to its actions and consumed objects as a method of proving dignity in its social relations, signaling this dignity ostentatiously. In this study, how this situation arises in the image structure of a painting is examined. Values preceded functionality in a world where being conspicuous is important, actions and objects come to the foreground, and eventually, by influencing passive human beings, they were released from humankind’s control and affected their relations. The spectacle can be likened to a stage play. The stage is built on an object or a person and demands passive audiences before it. While the spectacle demands their feelings and desires, it uses art as a tool and determines the audience’s direction as it wishes.
