Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine the factors affecting the quality of life of children using lower extremity orthoses. A total of 76 children aged 4-18 years with a mean age and standard deviation of 11.6 ± 4.7 were included in the study. Demographic information of the participants, compliance with the hours of orthosis use recommended by the physiotherapist, total orthosis usage time and daily orthosis usage hours were recorded. The level of knowledge of the family about the orthosis and the family's belief in the functionality of the orthosis with the Visual Analog Scale, the health-related quality of life of individuals with the PÖDE, the level of functional independence with the WeeFIM, the effect of orthosis use on their lives satisfaction with the PGI and orthosis satisfaction were assessed with the QUEBEC. The quality of life was low with the family's belief in the functionality of the orthosis, good with the use of orthosis, excellent with functional independence, moderately positive with orthosis satisfaction. direction was found. A positive correlation was found between compliance with orthosis wearing hours recommended by the physiotherapist and quality of life in favor of those who followed the orthosis use protocol. There was no relationship between the family's knowledge about orthosis and quality of life. As a result, it was observed that the family's belief in the functionality of the orthosis, compliance with orthosis usage hours, orthosis use status, functional independence and orthosis satisfaction were effective on the quality of life of children using orthoses. In order to have a positive effect on the quality of life of children, the right orthosis recommendation should be made, orthosis satisfaction should be increased, detailed information should be given to the family about the functionality of this orthosis, and compliance with the recommended orthosis usage protocol should be ensured.
