Abstract
In this study, it is aimed to examine the suitability of the most borrowed children's books written for the early childhood period from Ali Dayı Children's Library, which is the first exemplary children's library in Turkey, with the characteristics of qualified children's literature and child development. Within the scope of the research, the 25 most borrowed books from Ali Dayı Children's Library in 2019 were evaluated. In order to evaluate the books, literature research was conducted and the forms "Book Features Form" and "Question Form for Examining the Suitability of Children's Literature Works for 3-6 Years-Old Children to the Developmental Characteristics of Children" created by the researchers were used in the data collection process. Through the question forms, the content and external structure features of the books were reviewed under the headings of psychomotor development, early literacy / language development, cognitive development, personality development, social emotional development, sexual development and moral development, and analyzed by document analysis method. Within the scope of the study, it was seen that the books borrowed from the library were generally suitable for child development and qualified children's literature, while it was concluded that there are books that exceed the attention span of children in early childhood in terms of cognitive development and that the books are insufficient in terms of being supportive in the field of sexual development.
