Abstract
In this study, the long-term results of patients who underwent correction in the preoperative plan were evaluated by determining the centric relation change that occurred in the upright position while awake and under general anesthesia in supine position. In 25 of the 73 Class III malocclusion patients on whom bimaxillary osteotomy was planned, the preoperative plan was adjusted accordingly by measuring the centric relation change at the incisive teeth in the upright position before anesthesia and in supine position after anesthesia. 48 patients were operated in accordance with the first plan without correction. Postoperative orthodontic treatment duration and cephalometric parameter changes were compared between the two groups. The duration of orthodontic treatment after surgery was significantly shortened on patients who underwent intraoperative correction. Cephalometric examination revealed that, compatibility of the movement of point A in the sagittal plane with the preoperative plan increased significantly in patients who underwent intraoperative correction compared to control. Postoperative occlusal discrepancies can be prevented and postoperative orthodontic treatment duration can be shortened by detecting the posterior change of the centric relation at patient under general anesthesia with a simple method of wax bite and correcting the plan accordingly.
