Johannes Brahms'ın Eserlerinden Örneklerle "Piyano İçin 51 Egzersiz" İçerisindeki Alıştırmaların İncelenmesi

Abstract

Johannes Brahms has an important place in both music history and piano literature and is one of the main composers. Although his identity as a composer carried him to the present day, his pianist and teacher identities were also active during his lifetime.

The biggest product of Brahms' identity as a teacher, “51 Übungen für das Pianoforte” (51 exercises for the piano) is an exercise series that was finalized over a long period of time, stemming from the idea of helping students with their technical work. These 51 exercises are intended to develop the pianist in many technical aspects and provide preparation and convenience for similar technical passages in Brahms' works.

The sample of this study consists of Brahms' various piano works or works include piano parts. After examining the technical structure of each exercise, the piano parties were scanned, passages having technical similarities with the exercises were determined, and at least three sample sections were given for each exercise.

The main purpose of this study was to show that determination of similarities between the passages in Brahms' works and exercises can help pianists in the process of learning and performing works, and to offer exercises that can be studied in order to eliminate possible difficulties in the works. At the same time, the research was aimed to be a reference source for pianists by revealing the technical issues that the exercises contain.

This series of exercises is a great helpful resource not only for improving the pianist's technique, but also for understanding Brahms as a pianist and his approach to technical problems, and most importantly for getting to know his piano writing style.
