Annelerin Çocuklarının Eğitimlerine Sundukları Desteğin Çeşitli Değişkenlere Göre İncelenmesi

In this study, it was aimed to measure whether students’ sexes, grades, number of siblings, birth order, the mothers’ ages, occupational status and level of education effect mothers’ support for their children’s’ education. Within this framework, the support was divided into three dimensions called “Mother’s Attention and Support”, “Mother’s Teacher Role at Home” and “Motivating the Student and Gathering External Support” and each factors’ effect on each dimension was measured. A questionnaire was conducted on middle school students from years five, six, seven and eight during the academic year of 2018-2019 in Ankara. The data was analysed on the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences 23 (SPSS) program according to the descriptive survey model by using techniques like percentage, frequency as well as gap analysis tests. The findings were interpreted with the help of tables. The mothers’ support doesn’t differ according to students’ sexes. Mothers’ support doesn’t differ according to students’ grades and number of siblings in “Mother’s Attention and Support” and “Mother’s Teacher Role at Home” whereas the support differs according to their birth order in “Mother’s Attention and Support”. The mothers of the students who study at fifth and sixth grades support more than the mothers’ of the students who study at seventh and eighth grades, and the mothers of those who are the only child or have one sibling support more than the mothers of those who have more siblings. Mothers of the children who were born as the only or the first child support more. Mothers’ support doesn’t differ according to their ages. On the other hand, mothers’ occupational status and education level are factors that cause significant difference; working mothers and mothers with higher level of education support their children’s’ education more.
