Özet
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of university education on the development of analytical thinking, critical thinking, and problem solving skills, which are considered to be inevitable for the future of individuals and societies.The study assessed the levels of higher order thinking skills (HOTS) of freshmen and seniors and tested whether there is a statistically significant difference between the levels of higher order thinking skills of freshmen and seniors, whether there is a relationship between HOTS of students and gender, the high school types, academic performance, the education level of mothers and fathers, and socio-economic situation of their families. Moreover, the study aimed at investigating students and instructors perceptions about the influence university education has on students development of analytical thinking, critical thinking, and problem solving skills.
