Gey ve Lezbiyenlerde Açılma Süreci: Nitel Bir Araştırma
Özet
This qualitative study aimed to comprehensively examine the process of coming-out by gays and lesbians in a holistic manner. Qualitative research design was used in order to reflect the individual experiences of gays and lesbians in their coming-out process. The data were obtained through detailed face-to-face interviews with 14 homosexual individuals (7 gays ad 7 lesbians). Content analysis of the interview resulted in nine themes: (1) Values of the family and the environment, (2) awareness of sexual orientation and first experiences, (3) commitment of sexual orientation identity and the first coming-out experience, (4) experiences in coming-out to friends, (5) experiences in coming-out to family and relatives, (6) social support mechanisms, (7) negative experiences, fear and anxiety after coming-out, (8) relations with LGBTI community and activism, (9) attitudes/perceptions toward services provided by Psychological Counseling and Guidance and other areas of mental health.
