Abstract
This study was planned in Başkent Universitiy Department of Hematology to determine the dietary intake, antropometric measurements and some biochemicals parameters of 120 adult patients (19-65 ages) with hematologic malignancies who undergoing or recently undergone chemotherapy treatment. A survey applied to all participants in order to evaluate their nutritional status and some biochemical values have been investigated in pursuit of anthropometric measurements. According to the results of the subjective global assessment, patients were 60.8% in well nourished, 39.2% in moderate malnutriton and none of them had severe malnutrition. Body mass index, mid arm circumference and triceps skinfold thickness measurements in moderate malnutrition group were lower than well nourished group but there wasn’t any significant difference between these two groups. Serum prealbumin, albumin, transferrin, hemoglobin, hemotocrit, HDL-cholesterol, VLDL-cholestreol, trigliserid levels in well nourished patients were higher than moderate malnutrition patients and there was a significant difference between these two groups (p<0.05). Difference of dietary energy intake between well nourished patients and moderate malnutriton patients was not significiant statistically. Daily dietary tiamin, niasin, vitamin B6, folic acid, potasium, calcium and magnesium intakes of patients were inadequate. As a result, the majority of patients (60.8%) were well-nourished according to SGA however, they had insufficient energy and nutrient intakes. Inadequate energy and nutrient intakes of the patients should be prevented by nutritional educations.
