Kültürel Doku Içinde Mardin Süryanilerinin Kutsal Mekan Efsaneleri
Özet
The objective of this thesis is to examine the Assyrians, who live in Mardin, in the context of their sacred spaces and to evaluate the interaction of rituals, which were emerged within this framework (liturgical and magical practices) and narratives (hagiography, legends, sagas, memorials) with the cultural texture. The thesis consist of an introduction and three chapters. In the introduction part, the geographical boundaries of Mardin and Turabdin district are drawn. At the first chapter, there are titles about Assyrians’ historical adventures, identity, language and religion.At the first chapter, information about churches and monasteries in the district of Mardin is given. At the second chapter, the narratives of saints whose name was given to these churches and monasteries is told, and at the fourth chapter, in the context of culture, identity and space, the functionality of sacred spaces and saints is discussed.
