| dc.description.abstract | Identity is one of the fundamental concepts of several political movements in today s politics. Lots of people of different kinds of identity would like to be recognized as a subject, and stand against marginalization due to their identity. The basic problem revealed by these demands is that the existing policy does not only ignore differences but also owes its very existence to exclusion of others. This political mindset needs to change. However, today s political discourse based on identities only highlights empirical differences, localize the demand for justice and right, and lose its power to transform politics. The first part of this thesis deals with whether the identity of Levinas conceptualization related to the subject and the other makes it possible to think of identity on the basis of difference and responsibility. The second part presents Butler s criticism of gender and identity: the queer policy is analyzed as a solidarity policy that is not based on identity. The third | tr_TR |

| dc.description.ozet | Kimlik, çağımız siyasetinde pek çok politik hareketin ve teorinin temel kavramlarından biridir. Günümüzde çeşitli türden kimliklere sahip insanlar siyasi birer özne olarak tanınmak istemekte, kimliklerinden ötürü dışlanmaya, ötekileştirilmeye karşı çıkmaktadırlar. Bu taleplerin gösterdiği temel sorun, varolan siyasetin, yalnızca farklılıkları göz ardı etmesi değil; varlığını tam da farklı olanın dışlanmasına borçlu oluşudur. Bu siyaset anlayışının değişmesi gerekmektedir. Ancak günümüzün kimliklere dayalı siyaset yapma biçimleri, yalnızca emprik farklılıkları öne çıkararak, adalet ve hak talebini yerelleştirmekte, bu yüzden de siyaseti dönüştürme güçlerini yitirmektedirler. Bu tez çalışmasının ilk bölümünde, Levinas ın özneye ve başka olana ilişkin kavramlaştırmasının kimliği, farklılıktan ve sorumluluktan hareketle düşünmeyi olanaklı kılıp kılmadığı ele alınmıştır.
